Apprentice Electrical Fitter

To receive training in all facets of the electrical discipline as required by the company. The areas of work expected to be covered during training are installation and maintenance of industrial, commercial and domestic electrical distribution systems, fault diagnosis of single and three phase electrical systems; maintenance, repair, installation and testing of electrical machinery in a wide variety of industrial applications.

Accountabilities

* Follow and benefit from a set development path to satisfy and complete the appropriate apprenticeship programme supported by the delivery of underpinning knowledge at a Technical College or elsewhere * To undertake trade training in placements around the sites at AWE (A) and AWE (B)

Responsibilities

* Operate in accordance with the Company?s Security, Quality, Environment, Safety and Health (SQESH) standards * Applying due care and attention to ensure the safety of yourself and others in the workshops when using equipment/machinery * High degree of commitment to learning and development * Maximising on the full range of development opportunities that are included in the programme

Qualifications

* Entry is assessed via ability testing and therefore no minimal education standard is specified, however, a good aptitude for maths is required

Knowledge

* * No specific experience necessary although the ability to demonstrate an application of electrical equipment and safe working practices would be an advantage (i.e. experience gained in a school workshop)*

Experience

* No practical experience is necessary however experience in working as part of a team in the workplace / school or college would be beneficial * Evidence of experience in taking personal accountability for learning and development will be advantageous

Skills

* A practical aptitude for technology * PC literate an advantage * Communication ability both written and oral * Basic skill in engineering would be advantageous

Behaviours

* Interpersonal skills for a team environment * Safety conscious * Effective at following instructions * Ability to focus and concentrate for long periods * To demonstrate an enthusiasm for the role

Special Requirements

* Good eye sight and colour discerning ability * High level of mobility required for most operations posts * Will need to be able to work at height from ladders, mobile and permanent platforms * Able to work in confined spaces; would be expected to climb into and over installations and machinery * A willingness to work in Radio Active, Beryllium and High Explosive areas
