What will the role involve?
As a Craft Trainee Apprentice you?ll train as a multi skilled technician in mechanical and electrical engineering within either our Water or Wastewater teams. You?ll spend between two and four years learning through a mixture of classroom study and on-the-job training as you work towards a nationally recognised qualification. Working alongside our experienced staff, you?ll become expert in operating and maintaining equipment, running processes and tests, as well as fixing faults on treatment plants and pumping stations. Your first year will be spent on a fully expensed residential course at Grantham College, with an opportunity to spend time on the work base you?ll eventually be allocated to. Throughout you?ll be paid a good wage and be gaining valuable experience.

What are we looking for?
You?ll be enthusiastic, hardworking and ambitious with a real desire to drive your career forward through our apprenticeship scheme. You?ll need (or are expecting to achieve) five GCSEs at grade A to C in English, Mathematics and a mixture of three scientific or technical subjects. Keen to learn new things and with a mature outlook, you?ll be a good communicator with a desire to make a solid contribution.

Please note after completing year 1 of your residential college placement you will be based at one of the treatment works listed below. A requirement to be on standby as part of your working week means that we ask you to live within 30 minutes travel time of your base location.

Job Description
As a trainee you will undertake a comprehensive program of training for a period of 35 weeks duration. On successful completion of the training program you will be equipped with the necessary skills and experience to progress as an Domestic Electrical Field Engineer within British Gas.

Once appointed as an Domestic Electrical Field Engineer you will be field based, thinking on your feet to solve problems, anticipating difficulties and promoting sales opportunities. You need to be self-reliant, self-motivated and trustworthy, in order that you may be counted on to do the best job possible, every time.

As an Domestic Electrical Field Engineer your duties will include:
? Installation of domestic electrical installations and equipment.
? Domestic electrical installation maintenance.
? Annual basic inspections on customers’ domestic electrical installations.
? Domestic Electrical Field Engineers are expected to deliver these services to the highest quality and safety standards ensuring cost effectiveness and a high level of customer satisfaction.

In addition, as an Domestic Electrical Field Engineer you will provide the best advice to our customers, positively promoting British Gas and its products to increase customer awareness and the profitability of the business.

You will also be expected to deal positively with customer complaints, speedily resolving them in the most cost effective way whilst ensuring that high levels of customer satisfaction are maintained.

Domestic Electrical Field Engineers are provided with a full toolkit, uniform, vehicle and a DVD laptop computer for: instant parts ordering, job tracking and access to a technical reference library.

As part of a team you will play a pro-active role in achieving personal and group targets and need to be able to communicate ideas, views and initiatives effectively with team members and Area Operation Manage.

Requirements
You Must have the following as a minimum
? Hold a current full manual drivers licence valid for use within the UK.
? Previous experience in a customer facing role would be an advantage but is not essential

Responsibilities
? As a Trainee Domestic Electrical Field Engineer you will be offered the best training available in the sector. You will be required to attend one of our training centres or partner colleges, staffed by trainers who have extensive experience in the industry themselves.
? You will work individually on the latest appliances and equipment in a realistic set-up and a spacious environment. You will be required to work towards a vocational qualification via continual assessment by our team of qualified assessors both in the training centre and on real jobs in customers’ premises.
? You will be responsible for your allocated vehicle using it for travel to and from your training venue, and accommodation will be provided if required.
? Training is on a block-release basis, with 18 weeks spent at the training centre in NE England and the remainder (17 weeks) working with a qualified mentor. This enables you to gain valuable experience on the district.
? When your training is complete, you will be required to achieve satisfactory assessment and begin a process of support and guidance designed to ease you gradually into the full role of Domestic Electrical Field Engineer.

? You must be self-reliant and responsible, and able to demonstrate pride and effort in anything you undertake.
